December 2025 Update

Hi Everyone,

Here is a reminder about the upcoming outing:

COASTAL WALK LULWORTH TO WEYMOUTH – DECEMBER 13TH – LEADER JASON ORR.

Jason led this walk five years ago. It was very popular. He billed it as the Triple Bay Walk. Its an  approximate 10km walk on sand, rocks, and some unformed tracks beginning at Lulworth and taking in Tamoshanter, Fanny’s Bay and Noland Bay and ending at Weymouth.

A fairly sound level of fitness is needed and appropriate walking boots and wind and rain protective gear are essential.

Meet at the Lulworth Picnic Area on the Esplanade and be ready for a prompt 10am start.

Car pooling is being arranged and there will be an end of year barbeque at the Lulworth picnic area on return. BYO everything if staying for that.

CAN YOU RECOMMEND BINOCULARS ?

Andrea whom we met at Scamander has asked me to ask if anyone can recommend a good pair of binoculars. Her email address is andreacarollhaigh@gmail.com  If you have any recommendations, I’m  sure she’ll be pleased to hear from you.

DISA BRACTEATA – A SOUTH AFRICAN LEEK ORCHID [WEED]

I’ve shown you a picture of this orchid before expressing concern about it’s spreading in Tasmania. Turns out, it was first seen near Bridport a year ago, so Google says.

A neighbour of mine who has very keen eyes, was able to spot Disa whilst mowing his paddock. We dug the plant and its tuber out just before it went to seed, and will monitor the site from now on.

If we ignore this very weedy invader, it can spread to 80 plants per square metre in a very short time. Keep an eye out for it.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for some decent weather for our next outing. See you at Lulworth.

Louise.
